On Saturday, August 2, from 9am to 12 noon, MayDOG is cleaning up the new dog park in preparation for opening!

Are you available for any part of that time? We need help pruning, raking, weeding and otherwise making the grounds safe for our four-legged friends. Even just 30 or 60 minutes will go a long way.

Please email maydog@mayDOG.org if you can help out, and we'll make sure we have enough coffee on hand!

Bring your pruning shears/loppers, work gloves, rake & shovel, if you can. We will have a few on site, so don’t let not having these items keep you away. Will you join us?

We are currently working with the Town of Maynard to get the proper licensing agreement in place so that we can open the park. A reminder from the Maynard Animal Control Officer: 

Maynard residents need to license their dogs by Feb 28, per our new bylaw. No more than 3 dogs per house; otherwise you MUST obtain a kennel license.

It's time for the Annual Holiday Parade! Come join us (with or without  your four legged family member) for this fun event. Parade kicks off at  2:00 PM on Sunday 12/1 and we meet in Clock Tower Place parking lot at  around 1:45. This year's theme is ‘A Storybook Christmas’. Although we were hoping for a 2013 opening, we are now anticipating a Spring 2014 ribbon cutting for the O.L.R.A. (Off Leash Recreation Area). 

There are still several milestones that we have yet to achieve, and due to time constraints these will not be accomplished in the next few months.
 
The main issues that still remains in the cutting over of the  Solar Farm to the utility grid as well as finalizing legal documents with the town.
 
This being said, now is a good time to remind everyone that MayDOG is an all volunteer organization and that we rely solely on memberships and donations in order to open and maintain the Dog Park. In Maynard alone we have over 700 licensed dog owners, yet we have less then 50 household MayDOG members.

Shay Update - The good news is that we have raised over $200 for Shay's care. She is now also current on shots. The not so good news is that we are having some issues with the foster home.  It appears that Shay has separation anxiety and barks continuously when left alone. We now need to find a new foster home, preferably someone who works at home or is retired.  Shay is also now in heat, so she needs to be placed in a home without any in-tact males.

As far as the owner, he is checked into the hospital and currently undergoing treatment.

We really appreciated all the feedback we have received and will be contacting the organizations suggested, however these things take time and we are not sure how long the foster home can continue care. Maynard needs help with one of our own! A couple of weeks ago, a local veteran's (100% service related disability) wife
passed away and now he needs to check into the VA hospital for 2-3 weeks and needs help for foster care for his dog. He is very attached to her and wants to keep her after he gets out. The problem is that the dog is not current on shots
and has not been to the vet in at least 2-3 years (she appears about 3 years old).

MayDOG has found a possible foster but ..."Shay" needs to see a vet and get updated on shots and also spayed. The board has authorized us to budget up to $300 for this and now we need to raise the funds!
